From September 1965 I attended Ridge Church School in Accra, Ghana. In some ways it seemed more English than the English school I had left. Certainly the the headmistress and teachers teachers had an awe-inspiring command of the English language which made me feel inadequate at times.

I have the fondest memories of Ridge Church School, and I would love to hear from any old classmates from that era. One of the positive aspects of life (true of Ghana generally I think) was the almost total lack of racial discrimination... if anything, it tended to go the other way. I say "almost" total... when I first arrived, Kwame Nkrumah was in power and the schoolkids had to say a personal prayer for the wellbeing of the "Osajefo" at morning assembly. As a non-Ghanaian national I had to leave the assembly hall at this point.. needless to say this practice ceased with the February 1966 revolution.
